“My grandchildren are going back to school too…”
Those words from Jerry made us pause and reflect.
For many children in the United States, going back to school means getting on a school bus, entering an air-conditioned classroom, having access to several meals a day, and knowing that their safety is a priority.
For many children in Haiti, the reality is very different.
At some of the schools we serve, the meal a child receives at school may be the only meal they eat that day. Many have never experienced air conditioning, even as temperatures and heat indexes can become extremely high. And beyond hunger and heat, families are facing an unprecedented crisis.
Armed gangs control large areas of Port-au-Prince and have expanded into other regions, disrupting communities, transportation, agriculture, food supplies, education, and access to healthcare. More than 1.5 million people have been internally displaced, while millions face severe food insecurity.
So, we ask:
Can you imagine your child walking to school in these conditions?
And yet, despite all these challenges, these children still dream.
They still come to school.
They still want to learn.
They still believe in a better future.
At Zamar Ministries, we believe that poverty and difficult circumstances should not determine a child’s future. Through our schools and programs, we are working to provide children with food, education, care, and hope.
As the new school year approaches, we invite you to stand with these children.
Feed a child. Support education. Give hope.
