Walk With Them

Before the sun is fully up in Maïssade, some of our students are already on the road.

They walk as far as 4 miles to reach school. Many of them leave home without eating, because there was nothing to eat that morning. Just a uniform, a notebook, and the hope of learning something that day.

Those who live farthest walk for more than an hour. They sit down on wooden benches, in classrooms made of tin sheets and tarps, on a dirt floor. The teacher begins the lesson. And hunger sits with them.

A hungry child tries to listen, but the words slip away. Their head grows heavy. Their stomach hurts. Some put their head down on the bench. Others stop coming. They want to learn, but a hungry body cannot carry them that far, day after day, on nothing.

This is the reality for many of the 110 children at our school in Maïssade, on Haiti’s Central Plateau. Haiti is living through one of the worst hunger crises in its history. More than half of the country does not have enough to eat. Gangs block the roads, markets close, and food prices keep climbing. Parents who once fed their children twice a day now struggle to feed them once.

And yet, look at the photos. These children still come. They still open their notebooks. They still raise their hands.

They have done their part. We want to do ours.

Through Feed Hope, every child at the school receives a hot meal, five days a week, cooked by local cooks. For many of them, it is the most reliable food they will eat all day. With a full plate, a child can finally focus, stay through the lessons, and come back tomorrow. Parents keep sending them, because they know their child will eat.

A meal will not change everything in Haiti. But for a child who walked 4 miles on an empty stomach, it changes the whole day. And day after day, it changes a future.

$70 feeds one child for the entire school year.
$860 feeds all 110 children at Maïssade for a month.

Please walk with them. Your gift puts food on their plate this school year.
